Dear Mist was the first Live Action Role-Play organised as part of the (Re)configuring Territories research programme. The LARP took place on the last weekend of May, from Friday 28th to Sunday the 30th 2021.
Through the backstory of folklore we explored our emerging relationship to the river Narva, water bodies and the environment at large, while tying into the wider energy politics of the Baltic region. We created characters, became someone else, and communed with Soovana, the saddened mist.
The live action role-play was staged in Narva, eastern Estonia. However, because of the epidemiological situation LARP participants were online; facilitated by technologies like geo-located audio AR, instant messaging apps, Zoom and live-stream webcams.

It’s 2021 and our myths are starting to resist. Myths witness the daily humiliation and destruction of the natural environment, the places that birthed them. Now these malevolent and benevolent spirits are with us again, and their characters aren’t quite what they were. Extraction, pollution, degradation and neglect have forced them to act.
